photoblog image Reflecting on a Harley

Reflecting on a Harley

Taken at the Harley garage in Millbrook, Southampton. I'm lucky that the management are happy to let me practice all sorts of shots at their premises.

edit On this occasion I was looking for interesting and unusual reflections, while trying to make sure I wasn't in the shot!

I really like this shot Ellie. Very unusual and creative. Well done on noticing this smile
EJWilkins: Thanks Elsie, I've added a bit more information at the top ^^^ .. I was looking for reflections that day, with all the lovely shiny chrome I was spoiled for choice, but even so I managed to take a lot of rubbish shots!
When new to photography, experimenting is good. Not only getting to practice using your gear, but finding & developing your style. For instance, this shot. But I'm not sure about is on the reflection itself Ellie. The BMW?, it is competing for attention with the main subject you have here;the reflective chrome housing.
EJWilkins: Thanks Neurobani. Thanks, I'd deliberately included part of another bike in this reflection, and others I took at that time, because there was always going to be 'something' there, whether it was a car going past or a person wandering around.

EJWilkins: Thanks Nev. smile
Nice work. I spend the day at a truck fest and did this kinda stuff. Amazing what you can see in the chrome. Nice idea ! smile
EJWilkins: Glad you like it, it'd be great to see the ones you took. smile

Cool shot Ellie. Amazing what you can see in the reflections, you must be in there somewhere too smile I did a couple of Marley Davidson shots back at the beginning of August.
EJWilkins: Hi Steve, thanks and nope, I'm not in there anywhere .. which was perhaps the hardest thing to achieve. wink
Yeeesss !! I love that shot !
EJWilkins: smile Thanks Florence
A very clever shot for an unusual angle of view - Thumbs up!!!
EJWilkins: Thanks Zebigleb smile I'm glad you like the angle of this shot.

Spotted Ellie, nice choice of crop too smile
EJWilkins: Hi Chris. I'd wondered about going round the edge to leave the shiny oval, but I'd have lost the other detail of the bike ...

This is right up my street El, like this a lot, very good detail capture. Mal
EJWilkins: Thanks Mal, kind of you to say so smile
Very nice Ellie, I really like the reflections.
EJWilkins: Hi Neil, thanks for dropping by. I'm glad you like the reflections smile
Hi Ellie, I really am not a Harley fan (along with Schumacher driven Ferraris)!!! but this is a fantastic shot. I know you live in UK and it is asking for a lot, but oh for a beautiful blue sky in that reflection!Regards, Neil.
EJWilkins: Hi Neil, I'm not sure if I'm a Harley fan or not but I know somebody who is! I would have looked wonderful with a blue sky, but it had rained heavily only about half an hour before, and did the same about half an hour later, the clouds were laden with rain. ... Mebbe I should try to colour it for you wink
I like it, I probably think the lack of a bright sun helps this shot.
EJWilkins: Thanks Daniel, it wasn't sunny so the contrast wasn't as extreme as it might have been in full sunshine .. I hadn't thought of that. smile
Beautiful picture. I can't figure out how you managed avoid appearing in the reflections. I can't see you anywhere.
EJWilkins: Thanks David. No, you can't see me anywhere in this or any of the others I took that day. I kept moving around until I was fairly satisfied with the reflection and was absolutely sure I wasn't in the shot. smile

Not an easy task to keep yourself out of the reflections, I know. You've achieved that very well here.

You've also achieved a cracking and clever composition. You've captured a great deal of the bike by concentrating on a very small part of it. Applause too for the co-operation of the garage management.

Well done all round.
EJWilkins: Hi Colin,
I learned my lesson rather quickly, having filled a card with shots that had to be deleted because I was shown in each and every one, and which wasn't what I'd intended.
I'm really pleased you like this shot, it was interesting to work it out and get 'almost' what I wanted.
The garage management are magnificent, and very friendly.

Excellent angle... and good job getting that much of the bike in the reflection. Great shot. Just ...eye-catching.
EJWilkins: Thanks Ngozi, I'm really pleased you like the shot smile
This is cool: I tried similar stuff at the Chester dealership earlier this year, but this beats mine hands down!

At first glance I thought it was a photo of a camera lens. But upon a closer look, I saw that it, indeed, was a Harley. Great clarity.
EJWilkins: Thank you so much for leaving a comment Christine. smile
