Beaulieu Road Pony Sales

This picture will give you some idea of what the area of Beaulieu Road pony sales looks like to passers-by during a sale. The sale ring, or arena, is within the tall vertical poles, there is horizontal planking for bidders, sellers and onlookers to stand on.

The sales are held originally held here because there is a railway line close by. The ponies were transported to their new homes by rail, now they all go by road.

This aerial view from Virtual Earth will give you an idea of how isolated the place is. Click somewhere within the black rectangle to remove it. The sales are held beneath the area at the centre of the picture, beneath the '+'

very vibrant greens here ellie. if it was me i would be tempted to crop the sky closer to the treeline. the link is a good one that i haven't used before too. cheers
EJWilkins: Yes, very vibrant green after lots and lots of rain. I was tempted with that crop, but it changed the scale of everything, making the sale ring and so on look bigger. I ended up leaving it to try to give a feeling of remoteness, I'm not sure if it worked or not. Glad you liked the link. smile
Never seen anything like this before. Thanks for posting it. Would like to see the pony also, if you have any snaps. smile
EJWilkins: Thanks Sarthak.
I've realised I only have one or two pictures of ponies 'on the Forest'. I promise I'll post some really soon. smile

Like it - and as was remarked - alive. Interesting views of the earth from above.

Have you bought anything?
EJWilkins: The only thing I bought was a beefburger grin

nice one Ellie, nice comment too, we are learning with you smile
EJWilkins: Thanks Dafredo.
I think this place is unique, so it's worth telling people about it. I'm learning too, believe me smile

The action going on in this pic makes me FEEL the excitement and anticipation of this sale, as if I were there to buy something myself. I always like to see the bigger context of the close-up pics, so this is very satisfying to my curiosity. smile

I wouldn't crop it any differently, Ellie. And I especially had fun looking at the Virtual Earth perspective. That technology still amazes me!
EJWilkins: Thanks Ginnie. Technology still amazes me too, and digital cameras! There really was quite a buzz to the place. It was comfy there too, none of the ponies seemed particularly worried about what was happening, although it must have been very strange for them.
Suitably beautiful shot for a beautiful location. Great work Ellie. This is what I mean when I say intimate knowledge and understanding of your subject really helps to make the picture. Kindest regards, Neil.
EJWilkins: Thank you so much Neil. I think your comment might be a bit over generous, because I know next to nothing about ponies and selling them, although I do know the area very well and it is beautiful.

This is really interesting Ellie as is your commentary. Thanks so much for the flashearch link - Google Earth crashes my PC so it's really nice to be able to get aerial views again.
