photoblog image Ear's mane

Ear's mane

One of this year's foals at the pony sales held in October this year at Beaulieu Road, in the New Forest, Hampshire.

I was fascinated by the contrast between the upright and very short, unformed mane and the very curly coat of this foal. Luckily it stayed still long enough for me to take a fairly decent picture but of course a fence rail got in the way!

I showed the site of these Pony Sales yesterday.

EJWilkins: So sorry to disappoint you Rabby, I thought the pony was much more photogenic. wink

Courageous cropping...results in a very interesting pictue.
EJWilkins: I'll let you into a secret Ray, there wasn't much to crop because of the horizontal rails. All I did was level off the bottom of the shot and get rid of most of the rail at the top
Hmmm. Expected to meet Ellie today, not the pony. sad
EJWilkins: Sorry to disappoint you Sarthak
nteresting framing Ellie !!
EJWilkins: Thanks Dafredo. It was easy because of the fence rails, I just got rid of them!
Nice picture Ellie, and a lovely, lovely pattern for this one. Your framing is PERFECT !!!
EJWilkins: Thanks Florence, I was tempted to crop some from the right but this pony's gorgeous dark eye had to stay in.

OMG! Look at that! We call this "hello hair," like when you first get out of bed in the morning. And look at those eyelashes!!! The close-up is what makes this photo, Ellie. I love it--the hair textures and the color nuances.

BTW, what is this self-portrait stuff everyone is talking about? Where was I when the memo came out??? And why exactly DON'T you have a self-portrait?? So many questions, so little time.
EJWilkins: I'm really glad you like this one Ginnie, it's one of my favourites from the Pony Sales.

The self-portrait theme? It's mentioned on the front page, the one where all the blogs are listed, at the top. wink
nice shot, Ellie!
EJWilkins: Thanks Dotun smile

EJWilkins: Thanks Chantal, hopefully it will stay dry long enough to do what needs to be done and also get out with the camera. smile

Blinkin' 'eck, I thought you were a human! How do you manage to press the shutter button with a hoof? smile

Nice shot of the pony by the way. I went down to the Forest about 10 days ago and I've got a shot of ponies scheduled for Monday.
EJWilkins: Me, human? You were mistaken! tongue

... and anyway, what's this about visiting my neck of the woods without telling? I look forward to seeing the results of your visit, I hope it wasn't raining too hard.

Ok so what are you trying to tell us, you don't want to come out to play, it's a bad hair day, you ran out of film, sorry you shoot digital, I know you have a headache !

It's a nice pony shot as always but we wanted to meet ya!!!!!!!!!
EJWilkins: Me? Only one reason Johnny, not as photogenic as this pony. tongue
But, I'm glad you like the picture.

Nice shot Ellie!
EJWilkins: Thanks Etomi smile
"Punk Rock Pony"!! You really are on top of your game Ellie. Great photo as always and super crop. Have a very special weekend. Regards, Neil.
EJWilkins: Oh darn it, why didn't I think of that as a title? (*bangs head on keyboard*)

Glad you like this picture, it is one of my favourites.
yes, punk rock pony. Very cute. Make syou want to reach out and run yur fingers through its mane. Ilove the look and feel of the mattted hair. Looks like curls in a Greek sculpture.
EJWilkins: Hi John, I've learned something about 'Native Ponies' today, apparently their coats have evolved to matt into little downward pointing pyramids during rain, to carry the water away from the body. It looks amazing close to, and it's even more amazing when you know why it happens.
Yes, this one looks very Graecian, straight off a statue. smile
Very nice shot, Ellie...I love the texture. Makes me want to run my hand through the mane. Super!
EJWilkins: Thanks Sugarsnaps, and yes, I agree and think I'd like to do the same because the mane looks so soft. smile
Oh ... a Horse of fire?.
