Sandy

Saturday is Market Day in Lymington. From about 06:00 am through to late afternoon, depending on the weather, the High Street is lined with a variety of stalls selling almost everything imaginable.

This is Sandy. He recently took over this very successful plant stall from his Dad, George. He didn't like this picture, he said it made him look like a monkey. I wonder what you think?

On a historical note .. the right to hold a market was granted to the town by Charter around 1200 A.D. by William de Redvers, Lord of the Manor. The market is mentioned in Captain Marryatt's book 'Children of the New Forest'.

Here's a link to Flash Earth, so you can see where it is.

What a nice, cozy feel to this locale, Ellie. It looks like this market sits on a hill...High Street, indeed. It's a nice touch to have a smiling face here, with a name and some heritage. I'm guessing Sandy really was quite pleased that you took interest in him, regardless of how he thought he looked. Of course WE don't think he looks like a monkey at all!
EJWilkins: Hi Ginnie, I think he was quite pleased and he really is 'at home' with his plants. Yes, this end of the street slopes down to the river, it's quite a skill to erect the market stalls here.

Ellie you have my permission to print one of the monkey shots i have to show Sandy what a monkey looks like. Probably he meant as he was standing amongst all the bushes. He can rest assured that based on this photo i would buy from him.

In fact, i like this photo overmuch. A nice combination of a person and town character - the person has character and so does the town. All very lifelike.
EJWilkins: I'm glad you like this one Louis, I was pleased with how it came out, it does show Sandy "in his element".
It seems to be a very nice place !!! Green !!! Have a nice day Ellie !
EJWilkins: Thanks Florence, my day was very busy!
What a great full shot!

Sandy's wares look very tempting. Love his manmade treeline against the skyline. Beautiful!
EJWilkins: Thank you Jose, whenever I pass this stall I'm tempted to buy something for our garden.
Hi Ellie. Ask us South Africans, we really do know what monkeys look like and Sandy does not come close!! This is yet another wonderful shot, it's great to browse through the various signs he has. Very busy, but very effective, you really do know how to make busy look good. Best wishes, Neil.
EJWilkins: No Neil, I know he doesn't really look like a monkey, but that was what he said. I'm glad you like this as it is. I'd wondered about getting in really close and just having him there on his own, but it wouldn't have meant as much.
