photoblog image Tail ...

Tail ...

Yes, t's a foal's ... tail.

Isn't it a wonderful colour and a really interesting texture?

Did you know that UK Native Ponies, including those of the New Forest, have evolved a special layer of hair at the top of their tail that keeps rain away from their body?

Picture taken at the Beaulieu Road Pony Sales October 2006, there are more pictures of hte sales in my archive.

That is a courageous perspective smile
EJWilkins: ... and believe me, it took courage to upload it! wink
Courageous indeed. Did you have a zoom? smile
EJWilkins: Err, yes, it took a bit of courage to upload. wink
No, not a separate zoom lens. The foal was in a pen waiting to be sold, so wasn't far away from me.

Interesting bit of information Ellie smile like the perspective hehe
EJWilkins: grin
Very interesting interpretation of a "pony tail", without a scrunchy.
EJWilkins: I thought of that for a title, but only after I read your comment. Must get brain into gear! smile
Well spotted. And the details are stunning ! It's so nice. I love the colours !
EJWilkins: Thanks Florence. smile
Lovely arse here Ellie... Yes the texture created in the pic is superb.
EJWilkins: Do you know of the tv series "Father Ted" or "The Royle Family"? If so you'll know the expression "Arse" can raise quite a smile.

The "pony tail" does have new meaning, as Samira has said! And do I see a bit of a permanent wave there? smile

I really like the left edge of the tail, following it down from top to bottom. All those stray hairs (split ends?) flying out are lovely. And they're my kind of colors. smile
EJWilkins: I wonder if this will make you think twice next time you see either sort of pony tail? wink

You've looked at the picture in very much the same way as I looked at the foal's tail when I saw it. I'm delighted to have captured enough detail to let you share the experience.
Eiii, eiiii, Ellie, knowing you file we knew that this was the tail of the colt! lol. Good texture.
EJWilkins: grin I didn't look that closely Jose!
nice crop this way
EJWilkins: Thanks Chantal smile

Ellie, this is an END of it all picture. No END to the number of viewers who ENDlessly queue to see this. But it is not the END of the world and i END my comment by saying it is a most unusual perspective - what the brits would say - the horses end, man.

Didn't know that part about the extra hair growth. Interesting - do horses from other rainy world parts also have such hair, e.g. the friesian.
EJWilkins: grin I haven't got enough of my brain working at the moment to sort out a witty reply Louis.
Haven't a clue about other ponies, but I wouldn't mind betting that all 'native' breeds have evolved something or other to suit their surroundings, in the case of UK it's to keep the rain off!

EJWilkins: Oh heck, am I? Do so? In that case I'd better be careful. Do you think it's catching? wink
eh eh! smile very nice...
EJWilkins: grin
What a nice tail ! Nice details and beautiful picture Ellie !
EJWilkins: Merci beaucoup Roland smile

I think that this is your school parker coat El, you remember the green ones with the fury collar edging on the hood! And you have just arranged and combed it to look like a horse! I'm right arn't I? Mal wink
EJWilkins: Darn it Mal, you caught me out! tongue
