photoblog image White phone box.

White phone box.

A phone box in Portugal. Seeing it made me do a 'double take' because it's so much like the traditional red phone boxes we still have in some places in the UK.

What works really well is the whole setting is complimentary mostly white or vey subtle hues.
EJWilkins: Err, I honestly hadn't thought of that when I took the picture, thank you smile

reminds me of phone booths Clark Kent used to transform into Superman in. smile
EJWilkins: ha! Oh yes! Maybe that's why there's no door?
I bet they stole it and painted it! Nice contrast between the modern phone and antique streetlight, Ellie.
EJWilkins: Thanks Samira. About the 'contrasts' .. Portugal is like that, there's a fantastic blend of old and new that looks 'right' smile

i wish we had booths like that in the states. ours (if you can even find one anymore) are all aluminum and glass, unpainted. yuck. thanks for the help with my smiley faces. for that, i'll give this photo a couple. wink smile
EJWilkins: I wish we still had booths like this here in the UK as well. They got rid of a lot of them and put ones with large panes of glass or plastic on two or three sides, which gets vandalised. But, now they're taking them away all together because of mobile phones. Pity if you don't own a mobile isn't it? sad
Thanks for the extra smiley smile I'm glad they worked OK. I'm sure there are more that can be used, but I don't know how to do them.

Can't be a British phone box- it looks like the phone inside might be working. Somebody has nicked the door though
EJWilkins: Precisely Paul! They don't need the doors in Portugal, the weather's too nice smile

I would have done the double take as well, Ellie, because I'm a glutton for phone booths (my gluttony list is actually quite long), especially of the UK variety. I wonder if Samira is right--that they stole it. smile
EJWilkins: OK Ginnie, it's weather vanes, phone booths and possibly hats. What else is on the list? wink I know Colin (chunter) had a picture of a lovely red UK phone box a while ago, and I hastily took this one out of the loop. I'll see if I can find any more. Do you like post boxes as well?
Doubt if they stole it, to be honest, these things can be bought second hand if 'you know the right place' wink
One critical differance to the ones in the UK... You need doors on the ones in the UK, for those late nights phoning cabs.
EJWilkins: ... and you need doors to keep the weather out too! smile

Over the years I have always wondered why Superman chose phonebooths to change his clothing. First they are a bit cramped and then they have see-through sides and door, so anyone can see mr Kent is changing to S.man.

These remarks about the absence of a door can keep an analyst quite busy.

Nice pic to stir op conversation.
EJWilkins: Yes, you're right Louis. When you think about it, a phone box is a bizarre place to get changed. Are you going to analyse the picture along with the comments? wink
good shot here.
EJWilkins: Thanks Chantal smile
You are right, Ellie, are equal. I believe that Portugal bought them to the United Kingdom and soon it painted them of white color to be different!
EJWilkins: I think they bought them too Jose. smile I think the white paint goes nicely with Portugal.

incredible phone box, I've never seen one of them, very nice picture congratulations and thanks for your coments in my blog
EJWilkins: Than you Xavi, sometimes I only have time to look at pictures, other times I can make a comment as well. Next time you're in Portugal I bet you see a phone box like this one. smile

Just like the ones in Hull Ellie, they are all white to. Mal
EJWilkins: Aha, and I think I know why ... aren't Hull telephones run by a separate company and not Post Office/British Telecom?
Well, at least you can dream it's as warm as Portugal when you use one of those phone boxes wink
We have red ones in Norway too, but they're really hard to find these days. This is beautiful, and you kept some structure in the white even if it looks sunny as... :o) - Well done
EJWilkins: It was very sunny Aksel, and I think I was quite lucky with the exposure. My little camera works quite well when it's left to its own devices, it's when I fiddle with the settings that it gets messed up.
Thank you Aksel. smile

Well let me try to be a little different here! This is a wonderfully composed photo Ellie, including the name plate in the top of the frame is a great choice. The tonal range across the light colours is fantastic. Super focus and DOF use. Great work. Many kind regards, Neil.
EJWilkins: Aah, you're too kind Neil. smile Luck, and the Portuguese, put the colours together. I remember consciously making sure I got the as much of the street name as possible, and also most of the street lamp. The rest was down to the camera itself.
I do like that Ellie. Vey well catched
EJWilkins: Thanks Roland smile
nice catch Ellie !! very white booth !
EJWilkins: Yes, very white Dafredo, thanks smile
