Marine Museum. Belem, Portugal

This is the entrance to the Marine Museum at Belem, Portugal.

This building is at the far end of The Monastery of Jerónimos, which is in - this picture -

The picture has been centred and cropped.

Edit :
I've just realised I uploaded the wrong image, I had adjusted the horizontal on the one I intended to share.
The blue sky is natural, as taken, as are all the other colours.

Nicely done El. Looks like I'll have to visit Portugal one of these days.
EJWilkins: Thanks Johnny, you should visit some time, I think you'd enjoy it. smile

nice shades of blue on this one Ellie!
EJWilkins: Thanks, the sky is rather amazing. The colour is nothing to do with me, I just clicked the button. smile

Nicely captured, but what an odd looking building! Do you know what the point of the two doors in the entry way is?
EJWilkins: Thanks Martin, I've no idea why there are two doors to this entrance, which would have been to part of the monastery. The main entrance, which is round the corner and along the street, also has two doors. Perhaps somebody from the area might know, Photorusso or Jesquilo. Next time we're there I'll ask if anybody can tell me.

Liking the gradient-colouring in the sky Ellie... a big fan of it. Very well composed too smile
EJWilkins: Thanks Mia smile The sky colour isn't much to do with me it's how it was on the day.
Ejecución perfecta. Los colores del cielo son muy agradables.
EJWilkins: Gracias Jose. smile El cielo era un color magnífico.

Really nice. Like the symettry of the entrance and spires.
EJWilkins: Thanks Ellen, without the building on the side I think it would be perfectly symmetrical.
my kind of buildings.
EJWilkins: Oooh, that's good Chantal smile
You must have had a great time in Portugal...
Very nice and simple shot Ellie
EJWilkins: We did Ogonna, thankfully we are able to go there quite often. It is a beautiful country. smile

The sky tones are fabulous, Ellie, as are the contrasting colors of this monastery. I wonder if I was an architect in a past life because these structures amaze me. I could stare at them all day long and keep finding something new.
EJWilkins: When we're there again I'm hoping to be able to spend a little time taking pictures of details rather than 'the whole'. The way they designed and built these places is truly amazing.
I wonder if you might like Ken Follett's book "Pillars of the Earth", it's about a mediaeval cathedral builder and is packed full of interesting details as well as being a jolly good read.

Great shot Ellie! I have also been there and i just loved it there...
EJWilkins: Oh how lovely Petra, it's so nice to know I'm not alone in thinking it is wonderful.
nice shot...gud perspective and composition...place looks serene
EJWilkins: Even though this part of the building houses a museum it's still amazingly peaceful inside. It's packed full of wonderful exhibits, that take at least half a day at least to see them all properly. smile
With you edit, its just to say good shot of a beautiful building. Like the green details (litter boxes or posters or..) at the entrance :o)
EJWilkins: smile I like the litter bins too, it's almost as if they've been placed very carefully to be sure they are symmetrical. Thanks Aksel
I love the arch over the doorway and the detail surrounding the window.
EJWilkins: The arch over the doorway is very deep, I think to give shade. Every time I look at this I see something else. smile
Blue sky - soon I hope smile Nice capture Ellie.
EJWilkins: Thanks Chris, yes, surely one day soon we'll have blue skies here too. smile
Hi Ellie, nice shot of this very nice church !
EJWilkins: Thanks Zeb smile

Not bad for a wrong one. Tch Ellie, what's going on?

It is still a great picture.
Nice one, Ellie- you said you had tweaked it a bit, so does that mean you use photoshop or other program? If so, you could try fancy geometric tweaks to make it look like the pro's (vertical towers etc) by transform>perspective- it's fun!
