photoblog image Setley Pond

Setley Pond

A model reflection.

Taken last summer at Setley Lake, near Brockenhurst - here - If you look closely at the aerial picture you can see white buoys on the lake, which is used for sailing model boats.
.........................................................................................

We've had a wonderful holiday in Portugal. No new pictures yet, those that are any good will be slotted in amongst others that have been waiting for a time.

Thank you so much to everybody who visited my blog while we were away.
I appreciate your comments and have read them all, but I may not have time to respond to each one individually.

Pure peacefullness you've captured.
very nice shot Ellie ! nice colors and good framing
I like the way the dark shadowed ripples set off the white boat and its reflection in the smoother water.
Such a simple composition and so stunning! I like everything about this shot and that hue of blue is gorgeous. I like the way the ripples of the water are echoed in the reflection of the sail. Going to have this in my Likies. smile
EJWilkins: Gosh, thank you. smile

good job again, ellie. this one looks like a painting (a very good one, that is). i like the glassy reflection. i'm glad you're still using flashearth. as you can see, you've turned me on to using it, too. thanks!
EJWilkins: I really like Flash Earth, it's very useful for the UK .. and thanks for saying nice things about my picture smile
I like how you left out everything that could set a scale. It looks almost like a full sized boat on a full sized lake, but the scale of the waves doesn't look quite right. It makes the shot interesting.smile
EJWilkins: Funny isn't it. Until you see something like this you (I) don't realise that waves have a scale and size that's 'right'

Looks like a toy, love the reflections and as said, good use of rule of 3rd

Suby
EJWilkins: grin It is a toy boat Suby, about a foot long.
Nice shot, simple yet interesting. I love the refelction. Well done.

Beautiful shot Ellie, very well done indeedd. Many kind regards, Neil.
Very nice and even funny.
When you look at it you can think it's a real boat.
Great shot ! smile
Excellent reflection and lovely colours - simple and peaceful.
I think it's a nice one. Hope you had a nice time in Portugal. Looking forward to the pictures you made there.

Oh, Ellie. This is just spectacular! Definitely a Likey! smile

I see you're back on anti-spam. I've had one spam since I've been off. Have you been having problems?
EJWilkins: Oops, thanks for pointing that out Ginnie. smile I messed around with my preferences and profile yesterday and it seems to have reset itself. I've got rid of the anti-spam code thingy now.
I'm feeling quite left out actually, apart from internal (from other shutterchancers) advertising for courses and their websites I've never had any real rubbishy Spam sad
Oh wow Ellie. This pic is fantastic! I thought it's a real boat, until I read your description. I love the slightly rippling reflection in the water. Marking this one as a likey smile

Lovely and calm image !!

P.D.: Ellie, what is this geometric form as a letter “To” with a circle around, that is located a little more to the right of the lake where you have taken the photography? http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=50.803876&lon=-1.50361&z=13.5&r=0&src=msl
EJWilkins: Hi Jose, the "A" on the map is what remains of the WW2 Beaulieu Airfield. There were RAF and USAF units there. http://daveg4otu.tripod.com/airfields/bea.html The lines are the runways. The runways are mostly overgrown, they can only be seen from the air. The area is used for flying model aircraft now.

Beautiful reflection! I f you don't look exactly it could be a big boat photographed from a greater distance.
The water has a nice quality, and the reflection is very good.

Top notch. Composition which is 100% of a picture is 100% in this one. Muy gusta (learning spanish here on shutter).

Hi Ellie,

I think I'd have given this a little more room at the bottom of the frame or at the very least keep it identical with the top. As the image is lighter towards the bottom the eye naturally leads that way and you yourself have titled in such a way as to suggest the reflection is the key. I therefore would have biased it to bring a little more attention on the reflection.

I know what I am trying to say but may not have got it across very well.

Lovely shot and I do like the overall composition.
EJWilkins: Yes, you're absolutely right and I should have done that, it would have improved the picture. Thank you for mentioning/suggesting it, I'm always grateful for helpful comments such as this even though I don't use the red ShMood.

Of course, I've got the perfect excuse! tongue The boat was very close to the shore and there was a patch of gravel in the bottom right hand corner corner of the picture, no matter how hard I tried to clone it out it didn't work.

It's a great shot Ellie. One small thing...where is the model sailor...did he/she fall overboard?
Now that's a great shot: many years ago for me regained! smile
Now that's a great shot: many years ago for me regained, as Proust once writ!? smile
