Yellow sun; brown shade; busy bee

Taken in a field near Beaulieu last year this is a crop of a larger picture. The sun was shining directly on the back of the flower, which was rather odd because I had thought sunflowers always moved to face the sun.

Bees and flowers, eeeeeecccccckkkkkk grin

Suby
EJWilkins: Ah, go on Suby, you like them really! Think of honey, and perfume, and sunshine ... wink
I think youve scored another winner here Ellie.
I predict another hit with the shuttercahncers once again!
EJWilkins: Any idea why it works this way Eddie? I'm a little bemused.
Ellie, Eddy is right. This one's a winner! I love the color and the detail. Very well done.

A hundred million blossoms on one sunflower! Seeing is believing. I've never seen it in real life like this, Ellie, so this is really educational. One bee per sunflower would be a heyday for them! The color variations are really beautiful.
EJWilkins: A hundred million? I'll take your word for it Ginnie, did you count them? wink
It looks as if the flower's quite clever too, doesn't open all the florets at the same time.
This was the same field as the 'fallen giant' I uploaded 11th Dec 2006

EJWilkins: Really? I've never thought of putting any of my pictures on the wall!

Ellie, this is probably the most beautiful picture I've seen recently. Wonderful crop, perfect colors and the bee is awesome.
I had a couple of bees pictures I wanted to post, I am no longer sure that I want to post them after seeing such a masterpiece! grin
EJWilkins: Goodness me, don't do that! Don't hide your pictures because of what you see on somebody else's blog. But, I nearly put this one on the backburner because of Ray's bee the other day Take a look! It's amazing! http://www.mainlythai.shutterchance.com/photoblog/67756.htm
Wow Ellie... A gold picture ! Nice really !
Oh ellie, that's really good... to have captured the corner of the flower... and last bur not least, a bee !!

I was going to say your new camera has elevated you to another level, but I see this was taken with your old one. The photographic artist has always been there in you! This is a classy piece of work, Ellie.
EJWilkins: Ah, well, you see. I copied! Not really completely copied, but I remembered seeing a picture somewhere, once, aeons ago, that looked a bit like this so I cropped this one the same. Looks like it was a success, doesn't it?
Is it cheating to do that?

Got a bit worried that Global warming was galloping ever upwards until I read the description, all this Sixth Form stuff is going rather well
EJWilkins: Looks that way, although I'm slightly bemused to be honest. Any idea why?
Cracking shot, Ellie. Would like to see the larger image, though.
Great shot...love the colour and detail

Wow! What rich colours, and what an untidy harvester your bee is. I think you have presented this image really well.
Funny thing is I have two sunflower pictures queued up to present in the next week.
EJWilkins: I look forward to seeing your sunflower pictures Ray. You've got the knack with flowers wink

ellie this is simply breathtaking. wow!
WOW! What a wonderful picture!!! Somehow made we think about honey... recently I am honey - obsessed person, I eat it every day and buy jars from around the world (new zealand, australia, poland, spain, france, india etc.). I can imagine your picture at the jar of Beaulieu honey already wink
Back to the subject - just amazing picture, your macro skills are A+++
EJWilkins: Hmm, I like honey too. Did you know it was used as an antiseptic in mediaeval times?
An excellent shot! Love it. Such good detail. And the sunny color is so cheery.
Wow! Impressive Ellie. A brilliant macro with shining colors. This photo seems so good to me and its cut, that the bee almost, lacks importance. Bravo!

OK, I think they like it.

Everything is a copy of something, Ellie. Something you've experienced through sight, sound or emotion or just imagined in your mind's eye. That you've recreated that thought is not cheating; that you've cropped it from a larger original (if it's yours) is not cheating. The aim is to create something pleasing using all the tools at your disposal - the camera, the software, the paper, your memory and imagination.

In fact, short of passing off someone else's work as your own, I don't think there's any such thing as cheating.
EJWilkins: (21 April) A late reply ... Thank you Colin I think, ultimately, you're right and with the rich resource of the internet there are even more wonderful images available to look at and perhaps imitate. You've made me think of the saying, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." smile
