photoblog image Capuchin Monastery, Sintra.

Capuchin Monastery, Sintra.

Just inside the entrance to the Capuchin Monastery (Convento dos Capuchos) at Sintra, in Portugal, are four crosses, one for each point of the compass. This is one of them.

The monastery is a magical place, deep in woodland. We visited it on an overcast but bright day.

There is more information about the Monastery  - here -

I will share more of the Monastery as part of my "Sunday" pictures.

Very nice
Great shot, Ellie. The depth of field is wonderful!
I mainly like much this photo by the relief that is appraised in the cross!

The moss covered mound, and the background, really make this picture. Certainly looks like an interesting place.

The details in this shot are great and the exposure's been well handled (esp. since I'm guessing it's a cloudy day). What a nice camera that E-400 wink. Lovely composition too smile
I love the colors in this photo, actually, I love it overall. It makes me want to visit this peaceful place. smile

The cross almost has a 3-D effect, Ellie, which makes it really stand out. I, too, like the mound on which it stands. Do you know if anyone is buried there?
Hi Ellie - I agree with everything said by the others. A really great picture and I look forward to more of them. Did you find that most of Sintra was had a magic or mysterious atmosphere. And the palace, and the views from there - well !
