photoblog image Breaking the ice

Breaking the ice

Taken at Hatchett Pond during a cold snap at the end of January, these swans seemed to be working together to break the thin ice so they could get at, and eat, the water plants.

It was quite a dull, dark day.

This is an established pair of swans, currently nesting and brooding a clutch of eggs.

These guys look awfully familiar, but I am glad to see them again! They must be on the synchronized swim team smile
Hi Ellie,
I love the swans. Very delicate picture, creates a nice mood.
wow - that's absolutely beautiful. I can't believe that's ice. It looks so much like water yet the reflection screams ice... Beautiful capture! I miss seeing Swans every day..

Actually, Ellie, besides being very beautiful, graceful and lovely (three's a charm), this is very educational! Makes sense to me. smile
There's a lovely element of natural symmetry to this image Ellie.

Very interesting picture indeed, great composition - makes this swans look like strange creature with 4 heads! Reflection is just perfect, as the whole picture is. Congratulations for your reflex!

magical image. The chaos of broken ice sheet at each end nicely counterpoints the symmetry of the two beautiful birds.
