Parque das Nações, Lisbon

This is a slightly closer view of the building pictured - here -  (dated 11th January 2007) ... It was taken from a window of the building where my husband is currently working.

It's his birthday today Happy Birthday

.....

I apologise for not visiting many blogs over the last few days, and for not responding to comments. I'd hoped to catch up today, hopefully 'normal service' will be resumed within the next 24 hours.

Take a peep at JohnnyG's blog for today, it was great meeting up this weekend.

I like this El, maybe that filter we had a go at would have been useful here. Is that thing at the top a radio mast or a beacon I wonder.
EJWilkins: Thanks John smile
I've tried those filters today, they only work for close ups

I think the thing on the top may be a warning light for aircraft approaching Lisbon airport, and it does look as if there's a radio mast of some sort too
Hi Ellie, please wish your husband a very happy birthday for us! I would love to see what the view looks like from this building...it reminds me of La Jolla. Nice work. I like the soft tones.
EJWilkins: He says thanks Kay smile
I've hurriedly looked up La Jolla because I didn't know if it was a place or a person .. how embarrassing is that?

i've been looking through your archives for the recent time i've missed, so the insects you've shot got me thinking that this building reminds me of a certain species of beetle that has a horn like this building has. cool.
EJWilkins: Now you mention it you're right! Do you mean the Longhorn Beetle, or perhaps the Rhinoceros Beetle?
Ellie, please wish your husband a very happy birthday! And That it does not work as much in its day! wink
EJWilkins: He says thank you Jose. He did not have to work, it was a Bank Holiday. But it rained so there was not much fun.

That is an intriguing building. Do you know the name of the architect?
EJWilkins: No I don't Martin, and I'm not sure how I could find out. I wonder if one of the Portuguese bloggers might know?
There are two buildings like this, side by side, they seem to almost be a 'signature' for the area, they are well photographed and used in promotional leaflets and so on, but there don't seem to be any names anywhere.

Flippen link won't work for some reason, but I am pretty sure I remember the previous pic. Great close-up - so much like a ship.
Did you forbid johnny to take pictures of you and/or blog it ... sly grin tongue

Congratulations mr Ellie.
EJWilkins: The building does look very much like a ship, glad you remember the other picture. John and team are trying out the new coding on my blog, at the moment it doesn't seem to work properly, but I'm sure they'll fix it very soon.
No, I didn't forbid pictures, I ran away and hid!
Thanks on behalf og Mr Ellie smile

Happy birthday, Ellie's Hubbie! What a splendid day for a birthday!

This pic reminds me of a mast head on a ship (is that what I mean?). Very cool to see when looking out of an office window!
EJWilkins: Same thoughts for me too Ginnie, either the prow or some sort of sail.
He says thanks smile

Hi Ellie!

Torre S.Gabriel was designed by a portuguese architect (Arq. Quintela da Fonseca) and is suposed to seem like a ship like the other tower, S.Rafael.
Both have the name of two of the ships that Vasco da Gama took when he found the way to India.
EJWilkins: Thank you so much for this information Antonio. smile

I had no idea where I could look to find out who designed these, and had never thought they would each have names relating to Vasco da Gama.
