photoblog image Oriente Station, Lisboa

Oriente Station, Lisboa

Back to Lisbon again with another picture I took last year. This is the roof of Oriente Station in the Expo area.
This site has more information about the building
http://www.galinsky.com/buildings/oriente/

"The Oriente station by Santiago Calatraca was commissioned by the city of Lisbon in 1993, after an invited competition. Its immediate goal was to serve the great number of visitors expected for the World Expo in 1998. In the future the station is set to become the main train terminal of the city .... "

I converted the picture to mono, but I think there could have been more contrast, or something to make it look stronger. Nothing I tried seemed to work. The picture was shot through thick glass on a very bright sunny day. I'd like to go back and take more pictures here next time I'm in Lisbon.

If you review the connection that you indicate, you will be able to see down in the part of http://www.galinsky.com/buildings/alamillo/3822878839_m.gif one of its works in Barcelona. EJWilkins: Thank you Jose. I did not know how famous he was until I looked for more information. The http://www.galinsky.com website has just kept me happy looking at pictures and buildings for about half an hour. smile

Gracias Jose. No sabía famoso él era hasta que busqué más información. El Web site de http://www.galinsky.com acaba de guardarme en los cuadros y los edificios que miran felices para alrededor la mitad de la hora. smile

yeah, the contrast could be boosted a bit, i agree. but the strength of the shot is in the forms. good lines here.

been meaning to ask you, how did you do the mosaic you did for your 200th post?
EJWilkins: I think perhaps with a better camera, and a lot more experience under my belt, I might be able to take a better picture, one that would stand the mono conversion far better than this one.
The mosaic? For 100 I arranged thumbnails on a grid. I completely forgot how I'd done that for the 200th and it didn't work so well. It does take a long time.
I like all the geometry that's going on in this shot Ellie. It's very artsy. smile
EJWilkins: It's a marvellous structure Kay, although I'm not usually a fan of 'modern' architecture, it works so amazingly well. Jose has pointed out that Galinsky has done a lot more work, if you look at http://www.galinsky.com you can see loads more.

It IS the lines and angles and geometry, Ellie, that this pic is all about. I like it in mono and think it's strong enough as it stands, especially through a window.
EJWilkins: Hmm, that's kind Ginnie, but I still think it's a but 'dull', nowhere near strong enough. I know a bit more about taking pictures now, and I think I could do better. Good excuse to go back there again, isn't it? wink
Like a plan ready to fly... yes, it really looks like wings. A very nice architecture.
EJWilkins: Thanks Florence. Yes, very nice architecture smile

Great pick up of the patterns. For that xtra you could have tried a solid black or dark grey backlayer - it can sometomes provide spectacular results.
EJWilkins: Yes, I could have tried harder Louis ... wink
Nice architecture - I like very much Lisbonn because of the mix of ultra modern and traditionnal -
