Swan and cygnets on nest (hatched 5th-7th May)

There's always one, isn't there? One offspring that chooses to be different!

It looks as if this cygnet is "the one" that will not settle down and go to sleep beneath Mum's outstretched wings with its brothers and sisters.

I watched the little head push its way though, then it crawled on top of Mum and slid down onto the nest in front of her neck. Of course, it all happened too quickly to get a clear picture except for this one, which was when it paused for a moment to take in its' surroundings.

.....
I'll try to put a picture of the swans and/or cygnets every day this week, the first was Monday's picture
.....

Update:
Haven't been to see them today (9th), it's been cold, wet and windy all day. I like to think they'll have been snug and warm on their nest, protected by both their parents.

I love this series.
Absolutely precious. This is a wonderful series of photos, Ellie. I love the way the cygnet's pose mirrors the mother's.
Very very nice.

I can't say I have a favorite of your Swan series, Deb, but this one comes close to being #1, and I love them all!
That looks like a trouble maker all right. This is another wonderful picture in this series, Ellie!

This is the cutest! Great capture!
I agree with Red Pen - the mirroring effect was the first thing that got my attention - and I like it smile

You have inspired me to post a bird pic, so tomorrow I'll post one - it's not a new pic, but at least it is a bird or two smile
This has to be my best one in the series.. a truly beautiful moment smile
Very, very sweet.

Not trying to be different. (S)He is actually practising the 'regal arch of the neck' - trying to be like mom.

The mini and big arches in the same direction makes this a great shot i believe.
great photo all together.
U captured the moment nicely. She looks like a proud mum.

Absolutely fabulous, Ellie...once again. Do you have anyone in town who would want to sell this series as notecards? You need to market these or find someone to do that for you. They're not only educational but precious! Captivating! Pulling at the heart-strings!

What a smashing series of shots, Ellie! This is my favourite. I'm so glad you went back to check the nest and found this little treasures. What a shame they grow up so quickly.
That is deadly smile ...love it.
Ellie

When I got your comment about one of my shots the other day I had unfortunately little time to have a look to yours. I like a lot of them but I agree with the large number of people who already congratulated you for the swan serie : it's wonderful, and my favorite is that one. Regards-Laurence
