photoblog image John Bird. Artist.

John Bird. Artist.

John Bird is a talented, and popular, local artist. Working in watercolour, oils and pastels his work sensitively depicts New Forest and South Coast scenes, wildlife and landscapes as well as renowned local buildings.

My picture shows some of his character. He's a lovely man who always has a smile on his face; he was a willing victim for my camera.

As well as exhibiting and selling his work through shops he has a regular stall on Lymington's bustling Saturday market, close to - Moore Blatch Solicitors and opposite Woolworth -  where his original work may be purchased. Most people I know have a piece of his work, his paintings also make wonderful gifts which are always well received.

The lines on the pictures are not faults, they are reflections from the white awnings that protect the paintings from the weather.

Great picture of a man who is very proud of his work! I'm sure he would love a copy of this picture to post with his gallery. Well done, Ellie!
EJWilkins: wink He's got a copy Kay, I think he was quite pleased with it. Thanks
A terrific portrait, Ellie. His happy nature comes right through.
EJWilkins: I think it shines through too, thanks smile
Great portrait of a man and his work.
EJWilkins: Thanks Karen, it was a 'one off' I suppose they call it 'street photography'?
What a nice kindness in this look... Very nice potrait Ellie !
EJWilkins: He has got a lovely kind look hasn't he Roland. Thank you smile
This picture brings out his inner peace and contentment. Almost convinces me that he is a happy man like a favourite uncle. makes me want to grow old gracefully. Well done. Me likes a lot. Belly belly lice.
EJWilkins: Absolutely, and yes, I think he is a very happy man. smile

Well photographed piece of advertising material Ellie!! gringrin
My only slight crit on this one, would be the frame from the top of his head, something small I know, but as you know, something we must all be aware of when composing portraits. Otherwise, very good work, fully illustrating the obviously great character and nature of a seemingly warm and friendly man. Hope you have a super weekend. Many regards, Neil.
EJWilkins: Thanks Neil, and I'm having a good weekend smile Remember though that this is virtually a 'candid' picture. He was standing there, I asked if it was OK to take his picture, he agreed and smiled and that was it. Just the one. Any more would have been an imposition on his time, and would also have been staged. The pavement is too narrow for me to have stood anywhere else.

Great potrait, Ellie. You have brought the sense that this is a man of very good humour.
EJWilkins: Thanks Ray, I'm so glad that's what you think because he is such a likeable person smile

I remember this guy from your 200th collage, Ellie, and loved him then. Like Busola said, he looks like someone's favorite uncle. What a splendid capture of him and his art.
EJWilkins: Yes, it's the same picture. I made sure it was OK to use it on here before I shared the larger image with you. I can imagine him being a favourite Uncle too. I'll tell him what you've said and see what he thinks. smile
Dont worry about the frame Ellie, in these situations it's very difficult to pose someone and still keep the picture as natural as this. smile
EJWilkins: Hi Chris, no I'm not worried about it. I took one picture and this is it, not exactly studio work wink
