photoblog image Obidos lilies

Obidos lilies

Taken in Obidos, Portugal in February, these lilies were chosen by the editors to appear in WhatDigitalCamera.

I took the picture because I was fascinated by the way the flowers and leaves had a sort of visual symmetry and repeating patterns, especially the opening flower and the leaf to its left.

The picture has been resized for my blog.

I like the way the angle of the shot creates two distinct shapes for the flowers.
They're very beautiful lilies.

Once again, Ellie, I'm not at all surprised this was published. Strange thing: when I saw the thumbnail I thought I was going to see a shot of fried eggs ;-)

I see what you mean about the lower left of this image, Ellie. The whole picture is excellent, but the opening flower, matching the nearby foliage is outstanding.
I love those ones, took some of them too last week-end. They so elegant ! Well done Ellie !
Lovely, and so much detail, Ellie smile
Oh nice Ellie. I've got some under the rain too in my bag... You'll see them soon. Have a nice day.
Nice close up and crisp details. Good Shot.

We clearly never tire of shots like this, Ellie! Your compositions are always so perfect and your camera picks up the details so splendidly. Again, I can see why this one was chosen for your article! Congratulations.
Very beautiful shot.

Gorgeous shot Ellie. Really beautiful.
The editors probably picked it for the naturally high contrast, but you make a good point about the intricate shapes of the leaves and flowers. I wonder if humans evolved to appreciate flowers or if there is some obscure reason why flowers evolved to appeal to humans (and maybe other animals). Either way this one is very pretty and you managed the light perfectly.
