Swans and cygnets

Here they are again. There are still 7 cygnets, they seem to be doing remarkably well.

The weather hasn't been very good this week, it's rained every day so far which seems about normal for a half-term holiday.

This picture shows the family in the middle of the lake, probably about a hundred yards away. I thought, for just a moment, about getting closer by walking about a mile, round one end of the lake and along the other side. Then I realised that by the time I'd done that they would probably have moved over to where I started off, and it would probably have started raining again. They don't mind the rain, they're water birds and have feathers that deal with the wet.

.....

Thank you for all your comments this week, I truly appreciate each and every one.
I'll try to answer them very soon, this week is school half-term holiday so I'm a bit distracted.

Glad to see the swans again. Just a thought: it might be worth considering a tight crop here, removing some of the water from the top and resulting in a long rectangular image for more emphasis on the swans.
EJWilkins: I did think about it, it was one of the options I considered. But I've found that if you (I) make a picture wide and narrow on here it also seems to become even smaller top to bottom and I'd have lost any detail I'd managed to retain. Thanks though, I like to hear what other people would have done, it gives me new ideas to try out smile
lovely shot.

wow, they're getting big, ellie! i thought i'd let you know, liberty is really liking the baby swans.
EJWilkins: Thanks Alex, and say "Hi" to Liberty from me. Glad she likes them, I will do my best to keep properly up to date with them by checking them out every week, except for when we're on holiday at the end of July ... by which time they'll have grown quite a lot.

Just Beautiful ellie
EJWilkins: Thanks Aussie. How're you doing? smile
I am glad to hear that the pikes are going hungry smile Hopefully the weather will clear up over there. Here it is hot and rainy, not an ideal combination either.
EJWilkins: So far they've been lucky. This is the same pair of swans as were here last year, which was, I think, their first time nesting, so perhaps they've learned a lot and now how to keep the tinies safe. We'll have to wait and see though.
Very sweet and they're certainly growing.
EJWilkins: I'm surprised by how much they have changed, and as Chris says, they'll grow quickly now they've got going. Still gorgeous smile
They are getting big, Ellie!! Nice shot smile
EJWilkins: They aren't arent they. Still along way to go though smile
Nice to see this lovely family again. Great shot, Ellie!
EJWilkins: I'll try to keep one picture a week, as long as I've got the time to visit them. smile

Very handsome family, Ellie. I like your side-on shot...and all that wet stuff in the top half of the image.

I can count only 6 "uglies"...did a duck steal the other one?
EJWilkins: Hah! grin You spotted it Ray, you and Louis are the only people to say anything. Try as I might I couldn't get all seven in a picture I could use on here. They were all too far away or too spread out. If you look you can see the 'lead' cygnet is looking around to the other side of Mum, that's where the 7th one is.
Hi Ellie..I haven't been in here in awhile and this was the first photo I saw. Its awesome. The little ones sure are growing. Well done!
EJWilkins: Hi *waves hello* good to see you. smile I'm surprised by how much they've grown too.
I see you are really following the progress of these swans. You have been providing us with some cracking shots. Well done !!!
EJWilkins: I promised I would, and for my own interest too I'd like to try to keep a weekly record if I can. Perhaps they'll grow quickly, have 'growth spurts' ... I don't know, it isn't something I've done before smile
This series of photographs have been really wonderful, Ellie. Well done you, to find a gap in the weather for this beautiful shot! I believe the wet weather is set to continue for a few days yet, by which time the Forest will be like a quagmire!
EJWilkins: I took a risk and rushed out between rain showers (storms). It has been a truly awful week hasn't it, and isn't at all nice underfoot near this 'pond'. Hopefully it'll ease off soon, today's been nice enough, thank goodness. smile
so sweet...
EJWilkins: thanks Chantal smile
You take some great nature shots Ellie smile
EJWilkins: And believe me, I also take some awful ones .. but you don't get to see those wink Thanks Magnus, very kind of you to say so

Nice to see how the family is doing. Looks like there was some good light between the showers.
EJWilkins: Yes, a bit, and a lot of luck too. Fortunately I don't have to travel too far so they were under almost the same patch of blue sky as our house wink

One of them is hiding - I only count 6. Very good picture, keeping the distance in mind. You still captured nice reflections there. I like the simple composition and the contrasting colours provided by the white swans.
EJWilkins: grin You and Ray are the only two to have mentioned anything. There were seven, the seventh is on the other side of Mum. If you look you can see the cygnet at the front peering round to her other side. They were too far away, and generally too spread out to get a shot of them all that was usable on here. I'd hoped nobody would count wink
Very graceful Ellie.
EJWilkins: They are, aren't they. It's when the cygnets get a bit bigger that they somehow look less appealing

Good family group. Nice shot.
EJWilkins: I've got a long way to go though before I reach your standard. Thanks Les smile
They'll start to grow quickly now Ellie.
EJWilkins: They will, I saw some last Saturday down by the Quay, they were probably a couple of weeks ahead of these, very much bigger. I think I'll notice a difference when I track them down next week.
Hope you're OK *pals*
Yeahh!! Ellie, la familia ya pasea unida !! Una tierna escena. Un gran trabajo de seguimiento. Me gusta mucho el tono y color de la imágen.! Buen fin de semana! smile

Yeahh! Ellie, the family already takes a walk united! A tender scene. A great work of pursuit. I like much the tone and color of the image! Good weekend! smile
Ohhhh, they're still so adorable, Ellie. I know the 7th one is around somewhere, as you've said. Thank you so much for keeping up on this lovely family for all of us!
