√Čvora Cathedral

Bishop's Tomb in the Cloisters at √Čvora Cathedral.

I believe that this is the tomb of Bishop Dom Pedro, who had the cloisters built between 1317 and 1340. It is in a small room, a funerary chapel, off to one side of the cloisters.

If you look beneath the tomb you can see an engraving or carving in the stone, very much like those I showed on 13th May.

There is information about the Cathedral in Wikipedia.

The historic centre of √Čvora is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.

Shutterchance has done 'something' to this picture I'm afraid, the original is much clearer on my screen.

These old tombs can often make great photos, combined with a bit of history - can't be bad.

It looks to me that Shutterchance has resized the image and hence blurred it a bit. I tend to make the largest dimension of my images 700 pixels so Shutterchance has no need to resize.
Very interesting Elle

These tombs are so fascinating, Ellie. Did you see any where the bishop had a dog lying at its feet (as we did in Upper Manhattan)? I'm guessing every little detail means something!

Interesting stuff. I love the history aspect.
Great lighting and tones in this picture, Ellie.
Siempre son interesantes las historias que encierran estas viejas catedrales !!.
P.D.: A veces tambien he notado el cambio de color al subir una foto ¬Ņ?

Histories are always interesting that lock up these old cathedrals. P.D.: Sometimes also I have noticed the change of color when raising a photo ¬Ņ?
Like very much ! I can spend hours looking at every detail of such a monument, tombstones are very interresting with many details and artistic sculpture. More, on some of them it is the whole story of the deceased wch is draw on it !
