Swans and cygnets

Taken yesterday, 17th June, late afternoon and just before it started raining. They were a little way away from one end of the lake and when the cygnets woke from their nap they continued to move away.

The seven cygnets (yes there are still seven) are now six weeks old. No longer tiny bundles of fluff they are larger than the Mallards on the lake.

This is the first time I've ever seen birds sleeping on the water, which is why I chose this picture for today.

....

Thanks for all your recent comments, I do appreciate them.
I'm not around much at the moment. It's exam time and I'm being a taxi driver for our eldest and it, and the waiting, is taking a lot of each day.
The last exam we are taking is on 28th June.

It's so fun to watch the cygnets grow, Ellie! I still think they are cute and cuddly! Lovely shot overall. smile
They certainly have grown. Thanks for keeping us up to date.
Los cisnes van creciendo! Parece que no hace muy buen tiempo por ahi! La foto se ve un poco gris, verdad? smile
The swans are growing! It seems that the weather by ahi is not very good! The photo sees a little gray, right? smile
EJWilkins: The weather is not very good Jose, it has been raining every day for weeks.
It is entertaining to watch your cygnets grow up. Will they stay on this lake when they are adults or do they wander off?

Are you saying, Ellie, that "sleeping on the water" is maybe a bit like sleeping on the job for some people when Monday morning comes around?! grin

I thought of you throughout the weekend in Bruges whenever we went by the swan park because there were many mommies, daddies and cygnets, everywhere. You would have been in heaven. I must say, however, that it's been very charming to stick with just this one family and follow it with you.
You have done such a great job of documenting this lovely family. (:o)

Shame the rain seems to be back to stay for a while.
This is a really great picture .
Just lovely, thanks for keeping us up dated with their progress

Last time I fell asleep in the bath I nearly drowned. I lift my hat to these young ones.

Thanks for reporting on the cygnets and the brood parents.
Adorable. Good luck with the exams!
