photoblog image Grey squirrel

Grey squirrel

A female grey squirrel munching on a crust of bread. I was lucky enough to see a young, and very small, squirrel a few minutes later.

In the background of this picture is a small lake with concrete edging, it's the same lake as in my attempt at IR last week. The squirrel is sitting on the lower trunk of an oak tree.

Thanks for all your recent comments, I do appreciate them.
I'm not around much at the moment. It's exam time and I'm being a taxi driver for our eldest and it, and the waiting, is taking a lot of each day.
The last exam we are taking is on 28th June.

upclose and nice.
Hi Ellie this is too sweet and funny! Very clear too. You did a great job of capturing this little fluffytail. I have been away for abit and will look at your archived pictures as soon as I can.

What a great capture, Ellie! I have tried to take pictures of squirrels around here, but they are way to fast for me. smile This one is very cute, and definitely has a personality!
These guys are always crowd pleasers, and this one is no exception. Nice work!
Nice of this little chap to pose so beautifully for you. (:o) Lovely photograph.

Coincidentally, we had a squirrel visit the bird table yesterday - lovely to see, but the birds are eating me out of house and home already, without any help from a squirrel!
EJWilkins: We've got a young one visiting ours, after several years without being bothered. I do like them, but this new one has munched its way through the bottom of two plastic feeders, so I'm not feeling quite as generous. I usually make sure there's something available to them though, because I like to see them in the garden, especially at nut time.

What is she chewing - a cigarette butt? You must remember that children also have access to this site smile I think that is why the people were giving you the look in the park. A woman chasing butt chewing squirrels. Tch.

Great capture Ellie. Been a bit busy lately, but I may send the stuff over tonite. That site should work.
EJWilkins: It's a crust of bread. Some people were throwing bits of bread for the ducks and this little lady appeared out of the trees to join in the feast smile
She's got her eye on you! Do you ever go over to Brownsea Island? I have a memory from very long ago of seeing red squirrels there - as well as lots of peacocks. I remember my mum and dad falling asleep under a tree and after wandering and discovering, coming back to find them surrounded by these peacocks staring at them! Mum and Dad were a little taken aback when they awoke!
EJWilkins: I've never ever been to Brownsea, but did you know there are only red squirrels on the Isle of Wight?
Peacocks, I love them. Did you hear what happened to the ones at .. I think it was Paignton Zoo? (Or was it Bristol?)
She is so cute! I know grey squirrels are pests but this one is heart-melting! Well done Ellie!

I really hate it when people refer to squirrels as rodents. I know they are, but they're just so much cuter than rats. It isn't just the tail. It's those little front legs and the amazing things they do with them. A rat could never manage that!

What I like most about this, Ellie, is those cute-cute feet/hands and fingers/toes. They're so expressive. smile
Nice closeup
