Moorish Castle, Sintra

A view from within the Moorish Castle (Castelo dos Mouros) at Sintra, Portugal. Taken last summer and looking into the sun.

The - Wikipedia article - says this :-

"the Castle of Sintra was built by the Moors, possibly between the 9th and 10th centuries. Arab chronicles depict the Sintra region as being very rich in cultivated fields. Its castle was one of the most important in the surroundings.

In 1147, after the conquest of Lisbon by King Afonso Henriques, the Moorish garrison of the castle surrendered to the Christians without resistance. Afonso Henriques promoted the development of the region by granting a foral (letter of feudal rights) to the inhabitants of Sintra and its castle in 1154. During the reign of King Sancho I the castle was repaired, as well as the romanesque Church of Saint Peter, (Igreja de São Pedro) inside its walls."

Fabulous! Excellent castle picture, but you have given it even more with the framing provided by those wonderful old conifers in the foreground, Ellie.
Great angle ..
Great framing Ellie.
I like the scale given by the trees. Mike

Ah the dimage did it again! Great view, in spite of the sun.

I see the taxi note has dissapeared.

I had the same issue about the private mail being pushed into the 'e-mail' button. I must say I didn't understand completely when you mentioned it. Now I have seen it and all of a sudden the blog becomes unwieldly.
At first glance, it could be the big wall in China ! Impressive place Ellie !
It certainly is an impressive castle and with such a great vantage point. All the best, Dave

Hi, Ellie! You certainly got the most out of your holiday, and I have to say that this has been a very enjoyable series of photographs. (:o)
Very well composed, Ellie. I am so glad these historic structures have survived through the ages.
