Christchurch

Old Court House

This is the 14th century Old Court House in Christchurch. It's about -here -  under the +.

I can't find any information about this building, but just down the road is the site of the stocks, so there must have been a gaol nearby too. I'll have to look harder. ;)

And yes, the dreaded white sky, in this case it was pure grey cloud.

This is a lovely capture, love quaint little places and buildings like these

EJWilkins: I like them too, and this place looks kinda settled, somehow

Thanks for the link to flash-earth. I hadn't used it before.

(Like the grass growing on the roof too.)
EJWilkins: Aha, another convert to Flash Earth, I've found it really useful and it doesn't need to be downloaded like Google Earth.
For fun try searching for area 51, if you're interested in that sort of thing.
The grass on the roof? It needs rethatching, but it's awfully expensive so people tend to leave it as long as possible.
Really nice image Ellie.
EJWilkins: Thanks smile
Aaw, this is so quaint! The roof looks like its made of a rug, almost as though there's a little lawn growing on it. This is stuff from right out of the alternate storybook reality I spent most of my childhood in. I'm getting emotional just looking at it. Thanks for such a beautiful capture Ellie. Likeys!
EJWilkins: I thought of a toupee wink I think it's probably moss, although it might be grass, the amount of rain we've had would certainly encourage it. I hope they don't re-thatch too soon.
Tell me about the alternate storybook reality, and think Alice .. she lived not too far from here smile

Nothing wrong with the white sky in this picture - it did not blow any detail away. You maybe swimming in your wellingtons, but nothing wrong with the picture tongue

The picture has a very english feel about it (must be in england then smile)
EJWilkins: Ah, yes, of course, this is the original Christchurch, not the one in New Zealand wink
The sky helped, I think, to define the roof a bit.
What a great looking house smile
Love the roof
EJWilkins: I liked the roof too, even though it need rethatching, it seems to add a touch more character than shiny, bright new reeds.

EJWilkins: I thought the thatch looked almost furry, like a toupee wink

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Loverley!
EJWilkins: grin Thanks Ray, I thought you might like this one
LOL! Ellie, we even followed the same route! I love this little building, it is just so sweet. (:o)
EJWilkins: Doesn't surprise me at all, there are only two ways round, clockwise or anticlockwise ... wink
Lovely old building Ellie. It's just oozing history. David.
EJWilkins: I wish some of the history would ooze out in my direction, so I know more about it. It looks kinda cuddly, almost, don't you think?

Magnifica fotografia
EJWilkins: Gracias Xavi smile
Beautiful og interesting buildings - strange roof... smile
EJWilkins: The roof is a thatch desperately in need of attention, I thought it looked almost like a toupee. wink
The "dreaded" white sky works to show the incredible texture of the house. Beautiful.
EJWilkins: I think it did help actually, by the time I took this picture it was quite dark.
I'll have tea for one with fruitcake and Wensleydale. Keep the change. All the best, Dave
EJWilkins: OK Wallace wink

Very interesting building indeed! BTW, pure grey clouds - a bit too common nowadays, isn't it? This weekend we had some sunshine in London, how it was in your place?
About pure day clouds, it's the same here :-(
Nice old house !
When seeing these houses I think about Oliver Twist! It is as of tales of children!
