Forest Autumn

Forest road in Autumn

Taken towards the end of last week, this is the road ~ about here ~ looking towards the north east.

I always think the trees here look magnificent, but they're at their best in the spring and autumn. What do you think?

Nice autumnal feel to this, like the map link as well, a good idea.
EJWilkins: Thanks Les, a lot of these leaves have fallen now ... it was windy! I like Flash Earth too, it seems more user friendly for the UK than Google Earth.
I'm always charmed by a road like this, with interlocking branches overhead. So pretty.
EJWilkins: Thanks, that's what I like about it, being in a slightly secretive tree tunnel

The fall colors are lovely. It seems late to still have leaves on the trees in Europe. Has it been a warm winter? And what were you doing standing around in the middle of the road for three seconds taking this shot with a car doming towards you?? Crazy Brits! smile
EJWilkins: Ah, well, I cheated! I was standing by the side of the road on the verge, so relatively safe from passing traffic ... also protected by my car, which was behind me and between me and vehicles coming along on my side of the road. I did get some funny looks though, especially when I was trying to manipulate the tripod (which I'm not yet used to using).
In this part of the country it isn't unusual to have leaves on the 'native' trees into December, although further north I'd think it's unlikely there'll be many left now, especially after the frosts at the weekend. But, I'm sure somebody from further north will know.

I agree with Red Pen about loving trees that lock hands overhead and made a lovely archway, Ellie. Is this part of your New Forest, I wonder?
EJWilkins: Thanks Ginnie, yes, it is part of the New Forest. I've added a Flash Earth link to the bit of narrative so you can see roughly where it is.

Herb tunnel.
Great shot, Ellie. looks quite dark in there.
EJWilkins: You're right Ray, the only time this stretch of road isn't dark is in the winter when there aren't any leaves on the trees.

Ellie I love it when the trees connect with one another, it has a real warm feeling.smile
EJWilkins: I like it too Tracy, there are a few places round here where the trees have grown tall enough to meet across the road and it always feels sort of comfortable.
Nice Autumn picture.
EJWilkins: Thanks Gishan

Lovely autumnal scene Ellie. The leaves have just about all dropped up here in the NE so no shots like this until next year. David.
EJWilkins: Glad you like it David, we're quite lucky here that the leaves stay late into the year, and then arrive fairly early too so we don't have too long to look at bare branches. Roll on spring!

amazing autumn colours...
EJWilkins: Aww, thanks Sam smile
Very nice shot. I like the tunnel effect
EJWilkins: I do too, there's something special when trees meet overhead
Beautiful autumn road, I like !
EJWilkins: Glad you do Zeb smile
Like the trees and the different light on the road. I have seen some autumn shots in BW - the different colours make all his beautiful different tones of grey...no idea if it would work with this pic....just me thinking while writing grin
EJWilkins: I hadn't thought about trying this in mono, I'll see what it looks like, thanks for the idea grin

A lover's lane, but not with much walking space. Lovely autumn colours.
EJWilkins: Yep, and no, not much walking space, and the traffic tends to go a little faster than the 40 limit throughout the Forest too, so not good to even try to walk along the verges.

New Forest beauty
EJWilkins: Ta Chris, that's praise indeed smile
love this photo great colours I dont get to see autumn in brisbane because we are sub tropical
EJWilkins: Thanks, it's something that makes this area quite special. I've never managed to get the time to take pictures 'at the right time' before, so was quite pleased with this one. It seems to look exactly as it was.

What a superb composition, Ellie. The darker areas give way gradually to the lighter area of interest, which is placed neatly on one of the thirds with the road leading the eye into it.

You just want to walk (drive) into it and see where it goes.
EJWilkins: It's "one of those" stretches of road that begs to be photographed both in spring and autumn. I was lucky to get the right weather, and before the wind brought many of the leaves down.
Thank you for the compliments Colin. smile
Que bonita carretera (para ir despacio , por supuesto). Me gusta mucho la toma.
