photoblog image On the ball

On the ball

Well, OK the title isn't strictly true because this gull is sitting on the pinnacle of an ornate sculpture that looked a bit like an urn with a fancy lid on top, and was about twenty feet above my head. The little chap(ess) seemed determined to have its' picture taken, so I obliged.

A blue sky picture for what might well be a cold day here in the UK.

Quite the balancing act! I guess it is easier to look calm and collected doing this if you have wings!
EJWilkins: Yes, better than having to hold onto a long pole to keep your balance.
What a fun shot. I like the suggestion of the bird balancing atop a mobile ball.
EJWilkins: It's probably quite a feat with webbed feet, not as easy as it looks smile
Nice shot.
EJWilkins: Thanks smile

This, then, is the Almighty Giant Gull that holds our world up?

Nicely presented, Ellie.
EJWilkins: Ah, now I'm not so sure, it could be. wink

Awesome! Looks like she was posing for you!
EJWilkins: me and a load of other people with cameras, but when nobody gave any food it was off!
So proud, looking at the horizon 'I have a lot of imagination Ellie !). Crop is fine.
EJWilkins: Keep on with your imagination Florence. wink

hehehe..either he is a great acrobat or he is learning Karate from Karate Kid. Either way you captured a great moment...
EJWilkins: I think I'll stick with the idea of the acrobat, after all it must have taken a while to be able to land on this little thing with webbed feet
A great one and I'm happy to see that my ball of golf is finally here, I was looking at it in the ruff smile
EJWilkins: Aha, I found it for you Zeb wink
Great capture, Ellie, great detail from such a distance. Was this in Lymington? (:o)
EJWilkins: No, in Lisbon last spring, mmm, it was a lovely day too. smile
This is fun, gorgeous and perfect. I likey for me.
EJWilkins: Gosh Mary, thanks smile

I LOVE the title, Ellie. It brings a smile to my face. You gotta love anything that can stand on a ball like this. smile
EJWilkins: Thinking about it Ginnie, it's quite something to be able to balance on the thing with webbed feet! Glad you smiled. smile
Will email soon, but am terribly pushed for spare time at the moment.

This is great, Ellie. He looks so serious while balancing. Nicely done!
EJWilkins: Yes, almost as if it's trying not to smile, in case it then falls off!

Ha I laughed at Kathryn's comment ... ''A gull serious?'' Hmmm ... totaly arrogant more like ! Good one. richard.
EJWilkins: Absolutely spot on Richard, arrogant is the right word, but if you look carefully there could be a hint of a smile ... if you can smile with a beak!
smart title, just one concern, is that blood on her beak? all of a sudden, I don't just see a nice gull waiting for it's picture to be taken, but more a promise of Hitchcock's Birds...

Well of course it could be just my imagination, gosh...how one mind can take strange twists

the sky looks very chilly though
EJWilkins: Thanks for the visit Patrick, good to see you around smile

Please don't worry, the red mark on the beak is something that appears during the gulls' breeding season, it's where the chicks peck to be fed.
If you think that sky is chilly, you should take a look out of my window now, brr, it's cool out there.

Great picture and framing. You are also on the ball smile
EJWilkins: *groan* ... it'd be nice to think so, but I feel as if I'm paddling rather furiously at the moment!
Super shot Ellie.
EJWilkins: Thanks Bill smile
Very nice crop. The lighting is fantastic
EJWilkins: The lighting is courtesy of the sun, thank goodness, me and flash guns don't go too well together!

Nicely captured.
EJWilkins: Thanks smile
A good capture Ellie, gulls are so arogant they almost demand to have their picture taken.
EJWilkins: You're absolutely right, and as you can see, this one was no exception wink

Cool capture Ellie. It's really unusal to see a gull standing on two feet they normally go for the balancing act on one.smile
Wow! Ellie! You have made a photo with much clarity! Well done!
