photoblog image Owl week

Owl week

The second of a bunch of pictures of owls for this week. There are just two different birds and each picture was taken in and around Lymington during 9th December, which was a dull, damp day.

This is one of the Eagle Owls from the Owl Sanctuary in Ringwood.

Owls are often brought into Lymington, to get them used to people and also I expect for publicity.

~ Gallaxy ~ has some lovely pictures of other birds from the Sanctuary, taken while she was there.

You obviously have an affinity with bird photography Ellie, so you must get get up to the Hebrides sometime! Today for instance, I saw scores of buzzards, hundreds of lapwing and fieldfare, stonechat, black wrens, geese in-transit, ravens and a pair of hen harriers, all on one little drive!
On a technical note, this is a lovely crisp shot- did you have your camera on ISO 320 because it was a dull day?
EJWilkins: Thank you for the lovely compliments David. (Did you see yesterday's? I think it's better.) I'd thoroughly enjoy a visit to the Hebrides, but will be honest and say it's probably a bit too far.
Tell me please, what is a Black Wren?
Yes, at this point it was starting to drizzle and the birds had just been taken from their vehicle, so weren't exactly still - I needed the high shutter speed without loss of quality. My Oly tends to be very forgiving, especially out of doors, it's me who can't deal with quick movements. wink

I agree that yesterday's was better for me, Ellie, but this is still a winner! I think this one knows he's pretty cool, though. smile

I think it is bored with having its picture taken. Funny capture, Ellie!

Im telling you there is a wizard in there somewhere smile Another fantastic shot...I do prefer yesterday due to the large "headlamp" eyes but this is a softer and more "sneaky" looking owl. Cant wait to see the rest!
