photoblog image Holly Gull

Holly Gull

This picture carries on with the flying things theme.

Taken well over a year ago, at the end of a dull October day, with my little Minolta Dimage this seagull was among a group that were desperate to get the berries growing on a Holly tree. It was quite amusing to watch them trying to land on the tree, which they couldn't manage because of their webbed feet. But, because of their flying skills they were still able to strip off most of the berries while I was watching.

I stood beneath the tree to get this shot.

I know the picture is very 'noisy', I used a noise reduction programme but it wasn't a good result and unfortunately I no longer have the original - hard drive died, and the new computer won't read the backup CDs.

Anyhow, at the time I was very pleased with the way it had turned out, and it's something I'd like to capture with my Olympus. I'll just have to keep looking, and waiting, for the right moment - again.

Interesting shot. The bird looks almost stuffed, as if the moment is too good to be real. It has a romantic feel to it. I like it.

Perfect timing for a very symbolic shot. I think the grain actually enhances this shot, something that doesn't happen very often.
Very graceful capture

Hey Ellie,
This is a beautiful capture. The bird has been frozen, yet there is a hint of motion in the wings. I don't understand why you don't like the noise. I feel it adds to the charm of the image.
Excellent capture Ellie. I like the diagonal composition. Well done
Being at the right place at the right time will surely come again. Love the shot!

Lovely capture and the noise doesn't take away from the gracefullness of the gull. Lovely clarity of the head and the dull green of the foilage is a nice contrast.
It's not the camera that captures shots like these..it's the person holding it.
I like the shot and the grain actually enhance the beauty of it, whell done

agree with everyone else, ellie, this is a good shot. i don't mind the grain because, as i think someone else mentioned, it adds some motion to the shot. good job!

Excellent, somehow it reminds me of a dramatic statue - maybe it is because the feet are hidden.

Great composition as well.

Great capture of the moment - he looks too innocent doesn't he! I quite like the grain so I wouldn't mourn the loss of the original for too long ;o)
