Dorset Police Helicopter

A chance shot taken as this helicopter flew over. Never managed to get one of these that wasn't completely blurry before.

And that looks as if it's the end of the 'flying things' theme.

.....

Thanks for all your comments this week, I'm sorry I haven't had time to respond to them individually.

You certainly managed to find a great variety of flying things to post. This is a good one to close the series with.
EJWilkins: The last three were afterthoughts, I'd only found pictures for the first three days of this week. So I must really thank you for giving me some sort of Mon-Sat theme. It made choosing the pictures a bit more interesting.

Nice hi tech shot to end your week of flying high!
EJWilkins: Hmm, I don't often to high tec, do I? There's a thought ...
nicely captured, seems like a cold winterday
EJWilkins: How can you tell? Is it the paler blue of the sky? yes, it was cold.

And it just happens to be in the colors of my alma mater (U. of Michigan), Ellie, so I am a very happy camper with this "my kind of photo!" smile It looks like it could be a toy manipulated by remote control.
EJWilkins: Aha, an even more special reason to like the picture smile

I hope they were notlooking for you Elliesmilesmile
Cool capture
EJWilkins: I have no idea what they were doing, I wasn't in Dorset! wink
I like the way you've gotten this to fill the frame, you must have been quite close.

Might I suggest lowering your shutterspeed to about 1/200s? This will allow you to capture the blur of the propellars.
EJWilkins: It flew almost overhead, and appeared quite suddenly, but I didn't have time to do anything with the camera settings (had been looking at moss!). Now I know the speed to use I can try it next time I get the chance, if I ever do, thanks for your help. smile

Up, up and away, Ellie! Very crisp capture. (:o)

Just love pictures of Helicopters Ellie, well caught.
EJWilkins: Do you? Well, that was clever of me wasn't it? wink
Real nice one..! You are right, it's blurred whenever I tried it too !!
EJWilkins: I think you probably have to be really close to the helicopter, otherwise it moves too far while the shutter is working. Always been blurry for me before, this one was very close.

Ellie, it's a wonderfully clear shot! I think it is more than chance or luck...I think you absolutely know what you're doing lol!
EJWilkins: Believe me, I absolutely don't! It was there, I pointed the camera, clicked and hoped for the best, and then it was gone. I was lucky.
Duane's left a tip about shutter speed, I'll try it if I ever get this close to a helicopter again
