√Čvora

Roman Temple

Moving to my closest picture of the columns forming the Roman Temple in the centre of Evora, I thought the detail was amazing.

As with the other pictures this week, this is straight out of the camera except for being resized for uploading.

Tomorrow, all being well, I'll show you a picture of the Roman Baths in √Čvora, they really are in the most unusual place.

The detail is very appealing. Covering up columns with concrete must be a good way to preserve them.
EJWilkins: Whatever it was that covered them certainly did a good job,

I'm going to disagree with Martin. I find the detail a bit too intense - it makes it hard to see the overall picture. But I do love the colors in the columns.
EJWilkins: It's how they made this particular style of columns Jewlya, they were always well decorated with leaves - mostly acanthus I think. Earlier styles were less ornate. smile
Great details Ellie !

This detailed picture is very apealing to me, I love the angle, thank you for your tour and I will make sure I will be on time to get started with your next one, thanks.

I hope they are thinking about restoring these. Its a pity that such magnificent structure are rusting...
EJWilkins: Ah, it isn't rust Richa, at least I don't think so. I'm fairly sure it's lichen growing on the stone columns smile

Great picture - and clean as far as I can see. I agree that it is a great composition.
EJWilkins: This wasn't downsized except in terms of ppi. There's still some sort of problem with the framing, which I've noticed before. I think it's to do with the site software and 'small' (in terms of kilobytes) pictures and also in relation to lines - stone against the blue sky / black edge to picture. I might ask John/Duane, but they don't seem to be around at the moment.
Nice details shot Ellie with great lighting.

The closer you get, the better, Ellie. This kind of image enthralls me.
EJWilkins: I'm afraid this is as close as I could get. The columns were too tall for anything else. I'm just astonished by the detail, right 'up there' too, where it probably wasn't ever seen closely.

This really does show up the weathering and aging that has gone on over the years. Great detail.
