One of several bells in the tower close to the Church of Santa Maria do Olival in Tomar that we were fortunate enough to be able to explore.
The tower is believed to be a Visigoth Watchtower, possibly dating from 5th to 7th Century AD, which was transformed to ecclesiastical use when the church was rebuilt by Gualdim Pais, 4th Master of the Templars in Portugal. Further alterations were carried out in the thirteenth century during the reign of King Dom Afonso III.
