Barn Owl

I'm ready and waiting!

It was amazing how patiently this owl waited for the signal to fly - always alert, as I think this picture shows.

It's interesting to see how it sits back on its 'heels' ready to spring and use those muscles to launch itself into the air.

The falconer used the name "Earl of Ducie"
.

Fantastic image Ellie, he is gorgeous
EJWilkins: Thanks Aussie, I appreciate you saying that
Nice picture, but he looks a little ruffled. I know he was waiting to go, but had he just done a flight and not had time to get his feathers back in order?
EJWilkins: Well spotted Sheila, I wasn't sure if anybody would notice the effect of the wind. It was quite windy, blowing from left to right in this picture.
Wonderful, simply wonderful
EJWilkins: Thanks Bill, means a lot for you to say that

I read a book years ago about falconry and it was fascinating to say the least! Beautiful shot withthe black background.
EJWilkins: It's when I see birds as happy as this that I want to learn more of the history of the "sport". I must look for a book

The wind seems to be blowing, so I believe the rocking back on its heels may be to counter the push of the wind. The barn owls I know is normally a little more straight
EJWilkins: You could be right, never seen a Barn Owl in a flying display before, but I'll keep a careful look out for this if I ever see one again
