photoblog image Rose week #2

Rose week #2

This rose was growing at St Cross in Winchester, in the large walled garden between the hospital and the river. It seemed to fit in with its surroundings so perfectly.

.....

Please forgive me for repeating myself, but if you have a spare moment could you also take a look at this picture which was uploaded last week. (link fixed, I hope)
http://ellie.shutterchance.com/photoblog/Tomar (added - dated 11th December)

I don't want to move it because it was part of a series of statues.

Thanks a million.

I clicked on your link, Ellie, and it said the picture was not found. Could you please check on it?

In the meantime, you have yourself another fine specimen in the rose family!

You are very insistent my dear lass, but I do get the message:

"404 Not found

The page you are looking for can’t be found. The page may no longer exist or it may have been moved or renamed."

At least I tried.

Your rose is all the more beautiful for the background that comes with it in the picture.
Lovely photo again of another lovely rose.

THE LINK doesn't work as given, BUT if you remove the _/ from the end of the address it does work. The picture is worth looking at. Or copy and paste this http://ellie.shutterchance.com/photoblog/Tomar
Or perhaps you can even click on the amended link as I have given it to you.

Oh glorious- a rose is a rose is a rose! And that in the midst of the winter! In one week we' ll sing the old song (16th century, meant originally the Christ-rose):

"Es ist ein Ros entsprungen
Aus einer Wurzel zart.
Wie uns die Alten sungen,
Aus Jesse kam die Art
Und hat ein Blümlein bracht,
Mitten im kalten Winter,
Wohl zu der halben Nacht."

"A Spotless Rose is growing,
Sprung from a tender root,
Of ancient seers' foreshowing,
Of Jesse promised fruit;
Its fairest bud unfolds to light
Amid the cold, cold winter,
And in the dark midnight."

This must be a climbing variety Ellie, as it's so near the roof. Beautiful contrast of colours - the pink and the green against the warm brick.
