looks to me like they are intended to store wine down here...in my imagination there are vast racks for bottle laying on their side.
Superb Ellie. The gate is so delicate!
Could well be a wine cellar Ellie, the gates don't look strong enough to be a prison. Nice wrought iron work isn't it.
A lot of craftsmanship in those gates Ellie, hope all is well.

I suspect the gates are more decorative than practical Ellie
