photoblog image Parque das Nações, Lisbon

Parque das Nações, Lisbon

Reflections

A view from the Vasco da Gama shopping centre across to the River Tagus (Tejo/Tajo) with the cablecar and Vasc da Gama Bridge in the background.

The "Flags of all Nations" (Bandeiras de todas as Nações) are permanently reflected in a water feature "Espelho de Água" (Water Mirror) that is constantly refilled by water trickling in from the right across gravel. I believe this and the pavement are "Mar Largo" (Wide Sea) designed by Fernando Conduto.

The huge steel sculpture is "Homem-Sol" (Sun-Man) by Jorge Vieira (1922-1998). More information about him - here -

The massive building to the left is the Atlantic Pavilion, designed by - Regino Cruz and built by Skidmore,Owings & Merrel - It is a concert venue for up to 16,500 people.

That sculpture is huge. You sure do find them Sheila. It really shows the depth in this shot. Nice one.
What an attractive area, no doubt it gets very crowded at times. I presume that is the long, long bridge you told us about in the background.
This place is huge. Great vantage point!
Very impressive Ellie the figures really show the scale of it.
