I think I should look up more but these are not common around where I live
EJWilkins: I do sometimes wonder if weather vanes are something "British" because of our erratic weather.
Actually the grey day works very well with this Ellie.
Beautiful! Well spotted and captured Ellie.

The grey provides a nice backdrop for the vane
This is a super vane, Ellie. It shows up beautifully against that sky.

The boat seems to be weathering the storm. Great silhouette effect.

Oh, a wonderful detail- and the ship seems to sail away! As I was in Cornwall I loved the grey, stormy days as well as the sunny- blue ones, the sky was always changing, and it looked wonderful as on Lizard Point the grey sea got transformed into the grey sky so that you hardly could distinguish between the two elements! Land's End sank almost into the fog, but it was so appropriate to this scenery! And after some rain the plants in the Lost Gardens of Heligan looked so fresh and green that you could see the rain drops glittering on the leaves and blossoms. I love the English weather in all its variants!
It's a nice and simple picture : I like very much !
Ah yes. Those drab grey days. Not usually a boon to the photographer, but the sky works well here.
