Lisbon / Lisboa

Pavement, and ...

Sometimes you don't spot something until you get the picture home.

I'd carefully composed this to show the detailed pavement outside this traditional gentleman's outfitters, then waited until there were no people in the shot ...

... but didn't lift my eyes to the balcony above it, so didn't see the advertising for the 'Handcraft/Artesanat' shop which has its' entrance on the left of this picture.

It all looks so elegant Ellie: love the woman on the balcony
EJWilkins: Some parts of Lisbon are very elegant Chris, other parts less so

Its a wonderful image, Ellie...and, the best part is that cardboard lady on the balcony.
EJWilkins: Well, yes, because it's so surprising
A happy accident Elliegrin
EJWilkins: I thought so too Bill smile
Great tile decoration and the pavement and road look special.
EJWilkins: Goodness knows how much it must cost to get a special pavement outside a shop, it does look rather wonderful when it's so carefully done
The cardboard lady makes it Ellie.
EJWilkins: She does, doesn't she

Bet you were pleased. Like the cardboard lady
EJWilkins: I was, but I almost wished I'd noticed because I'd have framed the picture a bit better.
Wonderful Ellie. Lisboa is such a beautiful city!
EJWilkins: It is a beautiful city, they're making it so much better too, lots of sensible improvements including waterside parks and so on
The little balconies are great, I bet you were pleased when you saw the photo.
EJWilkins: I was, it was a welcome surprise
We often fail to move our eyes away from the main feature of a picture, in this case it has not mattered. If you had noticed the rest of it though would you have still taken the picture?
EJWilkins: Yes, I'd have taken the picture but would probably have stepped back a bit further so she wasn't crammed up against the frame.

looks like they will have major problems if they decide to rebrand the shop, Ellie. "Rumpelstiltskin", for example, may not fit.
EJWilkins: Yes, that'd be a bit of a squeeze!
A bit of humour always spices it up Ellie, and doesn't that gentleman's outfitters just ooze class of a Portuguese variety. Nice one indeed.
shop front, classic stuff
I like it
Cheers

What a surprise a cardboard lady on the balcony! and a great image too. It's so fun to discover new things and details when looking at the images at home.

Yes, very elegant and tasteful- My first discovery: the senora on the balcony! Sometimes I have the feeling that some nations are gifted with more esthetical sense/taste than others- for example the people in the southern parts of Europe, also in France!
Our Portugese charwoman is always dressed up elegantly, and I admire her leatherbags - and her changing hairstyles!
