Needs all the insulation it can get. I recall that there was great excitement in the birding community when these first appeared in the UK in the 1960s. There was a big population explosion in Turkey and they headed west!
EJWilkins: It was bitterly cold here, made me remember the awful winter when my Dad was first being delighted at seeing Redwings in our garden, then being so upset when many died of the cold.
I hadn't realised these birds were so recent incomers. They seem quite feisty, it makes me chuckle when they have a go at the Wood Pigeons!
Poor birds, this has been hard for them. Pretty photo though.
EJWilkins: It has been hard for them, but we do our best for them by making sure there's a variety of food in our garden.
he does look cold! nice capture smile
EJWilkins: It made me wonder if their feathers provide the same sort of insulation when they sleep. I guess it's an automatic thing, a bit like when we shiver.
This is one of those photos that work on every level. It's one tp be proud of. My only nitpick is that your copyright symbol and your name are very hard to find...
EJWilkins: Mmm, thanks Larry.
I always add a copyright somewhere or other, but I tend to try to make it blend in - and also make sure it's somewhere where it can't easily be cropped out.
They are having a tough time this year!

Chappie seems to be a survivor. I hope you had some left-over mince pie for it smile

All the best for 2011.
It looks so cold as to be frozen Ellie.

I do feel sorry for our wildlife in weather like this. Mind you, some migrants think that this is a balmy summer's day in comparison to where they come from. I've a friend who spends a fortune on bird seed at this time of year.
I've just bought a down jacket to do the same! But I'm just about to go to China, where I'm told it will be even colder than it currently is here.

Happy New Year, Ian.
What a beautiful sweetheart. smile

Despite the cold, it seems comfortable enough...I need a down-filled sleeping bag for the same effect.
