Today's New Forest foal

I spotted this brand new filly this afternoon, she must have been born overnight because when I saw Mum yesterday afternoon she was heavily pregnant.

The little foal was very unsteady on her feet, only standing up in the hot sun for a few minutes at a time while Mum munched her way through as much grass as she could manage.

Nicely done, Ellie. I love this little one. His/her "newness" to the world is very well captured.
Oh wow! is it possible i'm the first comment on Ellie's photoblog for once!? This is adorable. The lighting is greatand the earthy colours too. That little one is soooo cute. It's legs look so long and clumsy like! It's amazing they learn to walk so fast. Wonderful capture smile
NOOO! someone beat me to it while i was writing my comment! sad So close!
EJWilkins: grin ... don't worry, and thanks Iain. I'll call it a tie because all these three messages have the same time of 00:20

Great find ellie. you really need a tent so you can camp there. love the little fuzzy tail on the foal
EJWilkins: Not allowed to camp overnight except in the approved sites ... be a bit cool too, and very, very dark!

i was lucky enough to be at the birth of a foal for 3 times...most of the times the mum will not tolerate any visitors.
i was sitting very quiet in the stable to watch that miracle..very impressive!
very good capture of a vulnerable foal...
Petra
EJWilkins: Lucky you Petra, what a wonderful experience that must have been

What a miracle, Ellie! To think the foal is able to stand at all in its first day is just amazing. And he/she is looking at you, sharing the miracle. You have got to be really "stoked" to have captured this moment. smile
EJWilkins: I think you've caught my emotion Ginnie, I've been fairly desperate to get a picture of a wobbly foal, and not I've got one! smile

Looks like the new arrival fancies you Ellie! She's certainly fascinated with you and your camera, while her mum puts on her 'I'm so bored' routine. I'm sure your new friend would just love it if you came back and took some more shots.
Very nice capture, Ellie! It is funny how new foals seem to be all legs for the first few weeks. Most human parents probably would hate to have kids that know how to walk from the get go smile
As MArtin said, they're all legs !! So cute !!
I love the white legs. She doesn't look at all like Mom. I'm going to see a new baby foal today though it is now two weeks old. Very nice capture, Ellie.
so precious mom and child.

Great image, Ellie. Foal still has out-of-control legs and tail, but looks a little like it wants to "bond" to you.
I hope Mum gets supplemental feeding, cos that grass looks about done.
WOW, that's a wonderful foal... I went to Newmarket National Stud 2 weeks ago and they have plenty of foals too but they are kept separated from visitors (they are too precious and worth a small fortune I believe...). Where exactly in New Forest you have to go to see horses? I would like to go there and see them one day...
EJWilkins: Ha! My Uncle used to live in Newmarket! Small world

You can see ponies just about everywhere in the New Forest Monika, but you can't always get close enough to them to take pictures easily. If you'd like to come down some time I'll show you round. smile
Great shot. Yeah I am just echoing very leggy

Great capture Ellie. There is one thing bugging me, the tail of the foal is outafocus but everything else in the picture is in focus. The tail shadow doesn't suggest swing and the shutterspeed is not that slow. I have seen this phenomenon in some other blogs in the past as well.
EJWilkins: Thanks Louis, and I'm glad you asked. The tail was moving, it almost seemed to have a life of its own. Whenever she stood up it was flicking in all directions. The sun was very bright, hence the sharp shadow.
aww, thats sweet...its a lovely capture for the capture itself...
lovely moment Ellie smile
Awwwwwwww!!! Okey this is too cute!! Look at that sweet little knobby kneed baby!♥♥♥ The picture is really good too!
The foal is so light and delicate-looking, unlike the mama who is dark and heavy. Then again, we should give the mama a break. She did just give birth! wink
