photoblog image Taking a drink

Taking a drink

The pony wandered down to the water and took a drink, I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time.

EJWilkins: Thanks Tad, luckily the pony hadn't stepped any further into the water and muddied it.

Very peacefull scene...
You were lucky, but you were there to give us that... thru your own eyes...
Bravo !
EJWilkins: Hi Roland, thanks. It's a lovely restful place to visit, there's always a lot going on with the ponies and wildfowl either to sit and watch or take a picture or two.

My instant reaction was that it was too saturated, but I'm also aware that I'm too cautious when processing my own work and I never quite take it far enough.

On balance, I think it's fine, and there's no question that the composition is spot on.

I'd hazard a guess as you're from Hampshire that this is in the New Forest? Cetainly looks like a New Forest pony. I'm in a village just the Southampton side of Salisbury so have easy access to much of it. Not sure I recognise this puddle though.
EJWilkins: Thanks for the comments. I'm glad that, in the end, you like it. smile It was taken during a visit to Hatchett Pond near Beaulieu. Surprisingly this picture hasn't been tweaked other than cropping and two clicks for contrast and then sharpening, anything else would have made the grass too bright and the red car (the car park was cropped out) would have bounced out of the picture all on its own. It was a glorious day in May, not long after I'd got the camera.
great shot!
EJWilkins: Thanks Nishath, kind of you to drop by, I'm glad you like it

Surreal. Pretty cool.

Just a technique you might want to try out next time you get a reflection off any surface: use a polarizing filter. Just checked online, and your z5 should be able to accept 55mm polarizers. You will be astounded at the effect! smile

Happy shooting... smile
EJWilkins: Thanks, I'll have to find out what one of those will do. I hope they aren't too expensive.

Nature at it's finest. I really love the reflection and the simplicity of a natural daily activity captured in the frame.

Superb shot
