Donkeys at Beaulieu

Within the New Forest the animals really do roam wherever they want.

What do you think these two might have been saying to themselves as they stood outside the Post Office in Beaulieu?

Great choice of viewpoint here probably leading the two beasts to be saying "Is that woman lying in the gutter drunk, looking for old fag butts, or trying to get a wacky photo of us for her photoblog?"
EJWilkins: wink I wonder which of those you thought the most likely ...
Alright dear, I'll get our pension and you pop into the offey and get a couple of cans and then we'll see if the nice lady will take our photo.

EJWilkins: grin ... a moment or so after I'd taken this picture somebody came out of the shop and gave them some Maltesers!
LOL !!! Que buena foto de humor !! Hace sonreir. Es como si los asnos estuvieses leyendo el menú de la comida !! wink

LOL! That good photo of humor! It makes smile. It is as if the asses you were reading the menu of the lunch !! wink
EJWilkins: I am pleased it made you smile.

I know exactly what they're saying, Ellie: "I wonder where Aunt Sari and Uncle Joe are!" HAHAHAHA. Donica's aunt and uncle (and 4 cousins) are all Beaulieus! So funny.
EJWilkins: smile I wonder if they have historical links with the place? What a coincidence!
Very funny Ellie. I love the donkeys. They are very cute. And I love Ginnie's comment too smile
EJWilkins: Good wasn't it? Thanks Kay smile

Hi Ellie. I think they are trying to decide which one looks old enough to make a purchase at the off-licence. If they did manage to make a purchase, then I guess you have a follow-up pic of them strolling off sharing a bottle in a brown paper bag...I would like to see that.
It is a great pic...donkeys are nice animals, and the setting is priceless.
EJWilkins: I've realised I take it for granted now, so thought I ought to share a bit more of the magic of the area with you all. ... Do you think they'd cope with the paper bag, or would they eat it? wink
Funny! I bet they are complaining about the young'uns. Why is this area called the New Forrest?
EJWilkins: Do you think they might be? It could be true!
It's called the "New Forest" because it was created as a 'new' hunting ground by William the Conqueror in 1097. There's a bit more if you scroll down on this page
Ah ah ! really lovely Ellie ! Does those donkeys can read ?
EJWilkins: It does look as if they can read smile

"Don't be an ass, you wonky donkey! They've got external CCTV now - look, there's one over there right in front of you. We'll have to nip round the back and nick the carrots from there."
EJWilkins: Nice one Colin ... a few moment after this somebody gave them a few Maltesers, much less of a healthy option wink
Derby & Joan? grin Nice catch Ellie.
EJWilkins: Hah! Yes! grin
Conversation between them must have gone some thing like this:

Donkey #1(on the left): Look! the papparazzi , Pose Quick!
Donkey #2(on the right) : Oh , no way , she's not getting me like this ( my hair isn't combed) Gnaw!
Donkey #1: Ur hair looks just fine!
Donkey # 2: I said No! - now leave me alone!
Donkey #1: Yeah, whatever, do what u want, I'm determined to look good in this one!smile

And so Ellie that's how donkey #1 gave you the amazing sideways pose and looked into your lens and donkey #2 is shying away!

Really cool shot (finally got round to it!)
EJWilkins: Will you give up your photography for a career in scriptwriting? wink Thanks Ade
Great picture.
EJWilkins: Thanks Shakara

Brilliant shot.... like the rest of your work it is very natural and well composed.

They do what they want, hey. The one on the left looks as if it has just come from the shop smile Saying to the other donkey: that shop assistant short changed me, she must think I am a donkey.

Great shot.
EJWilkins: *chuckle* Good one, thanks Louis!

'Be strong Dave, walk straight ahead. Ain't nothin but wild women and good times if you go in there. Alright you convinced me... a quick snifter and a cube of sugar and we're back on the carrots.'

great find ellie.
EJWilkins: Another chuckle from me! I'm so glad I uploaded this picture, I almost didn't! Thanks Neal smile
Just realised that American viewers would completely misunderstand my words "fag butts", both of which have totally different meaning over there!! For any US bloggers reading this, I meant cigarette ends!! grin
EJWilkins: Oh cripes David, you've just made me laugh so much I nearly choked! I didn't for a moment think of trans-Atlantic translations! grin
A good shot Ellie!! Absolutely had the giggles reading all the replies lol Have a good weekend!!
EJWilkins: I've really enjoyed them too, I'm so glad I posted this picture, I almost didnt!

Dabie's shots are great - might try it myself someday.
Yes the photo is in mono and digitally painted.

Enjoy the week end
I was going to launch into something about carrots but I see Mal got in there before me! Lovely shot.
Once upon a time...
This is a great picture Ellie !
What a fun photo. And the comments have been a riot to read. Nothing I could come up with would beat the conversational suggestions already made.

They must be well used to humans to allow you get so close. I guess you were crouching down low on the pavement to get this angle of view.

I think they are just nodding and about to leave their mark on the high street. It reminds me of my last visit to Beaulieu about 15 years ago left. A rather amorous male, over-flowing with testosterone and with his fancied female adjacent, left the pink-rinse pensioners coming out of the teashop crimson with embarressment. Why haven't I seen this one in the racks of postcards outside newsagents. Timeless!
