Love the hairy ears!
EJWilkins: I didn't know they had hairy ears until I saw this beauty
LOL, funny angle
EJWilkins: I thought it was the best angle, because it caught the reflection

Ah, one of the best pictures of myself I have seen to date. Thanks you caught me in a good mood.

Harry Hippo
EJWilkins: Dear Harry,
You were in a very happy mood that day, it was sunny and you were enjoying hiding under the water blowing a few bubbles at passers by

Your choice of tight letterbox crop works a treat here, Ellie.
EJWilkins: Funny how the letterbox crop suits some pictures. Glad you agree with me smile

Excellent crop and composition, as well as a very crisp and detailed shot of a creature must of us haven't seen this close up.
EJWilkins: I'd only ever seen pigmy hippos before, this chap was huge!
Excellent portrait Ellie. I really like your crop here!
EJWilkins: Thanks, I was pleased with the way it worked out
EJWilkins: Yep, there was some of that in the water too!
This is exactly what they look like in the wild, swimming and dozing in the lakes. From a distance they look like flat stones in the water. Get your boat over or near one of these, and you can be capcised in seconds.
EJWilkins: That's what I was hoping it looked like, so I could almost pretend to have been in safari or something. I've seen fantastic pictures of them in the wild, but I know I'll never get there to see them for myself.
Great capture. I have never seen a hippos eye up that close before.
EJWilkins: Nor had I. smile
I love this Ellie.
EJWilkins: Glad you do smile Thanks Bill
I really, really like this Ellie, I haven't seen one of these ofr ages at a zoo.
EJWilkins: I'm not sure how many British zoos have big hippos, the only ones I've seen have been the pigmies. I think they all specialise now, so that the keepers have their specialisms.
I'm glad you like the picture too, I enjoyed taking it smile

EJWilkins: The crop worked didn't it? I'm pleased with the way it worked out Thanks Tim smile
This is close, I bet you were glad it was in a Zoo!
EJWilkins: It was close, very close, and yes, I was glad it was in a zoo. The hippos didn't seem to mind too much either.
